I would like to introduce myself to the world and let you know why I am here.
My name is Bud Thomas and I am a professional chef in Telluride, CO. I grew up in Phoenix, AZ with parents that like to cook. And everyone in my family liked to eat well too.
My passion for cooking started while cooking on an open fire on the beach in Mexico back in the 70’s. We camped on that beach often and got very good at making meals in the sand. Usually we did this by teetering a grill on empty beer cans only inches from the sand.
After several gin and tonics, my dad tended to drop items in the sand. Over time, I learned to pay close attention to what was happening. Dad’s quick Tecate rinse did very little to remove grit before our dinner was tossed right back on the grill. Sad but true, I was forced to learn to cook to prevent the all too often gritty beach meal. The tradition is now being carried on: my kids are now going on those same trips, and they too are paying close attention to dad’s campfire cooking. They have also quickly learned what it means to have “Kung Fu Feet” if within 20 feet of the grill.
Back to why I am here. I want to help everyone and anyone I can by demystifying cooking at home. Some of my goals include tackling subjects like: kitchen equipment, general cooking guidelines, ingredients, techniques, food economics and simply making tasty food.
I am going into this with a very open mind and I am very interested to see where it goes.
