Eating Down the Fridge

Posted on 09 March 2009 by ChefBud

Our family has decided to accept the Washington Post’s Eating Down the Fridge Challenge.  Beginning today we will not go to the grocery store for one week.  Instead, we will eat the food that is in our pantry, fridge and freezer. We often make food in large amounts and freeze them in portion sizes so we do have an advantage over people who don’t do that.  If you haven’t done so already, check out our blog and live cooking show on roasting chicken and making freezer bags of pulled chicken with stock.

Stretching our fresh fruit and vegetables to last through the week will be the true challenge!

I didn’t participate in the challenge, but funny thing; we do this all the time. I only shop once a week, with a list. I try to make things that use up what I have, and I don’t go back to the store unless something really important like milk runs out. It really helps with meal planning.
